About North Macedonia

UNESCO Trails and Wild Alpine Terrain

North Macedonia is one of the Balkans’ most underrated trail running destinations. Galicica National Park rises sharply above Lake Ohrid — Europe’s oldest lake and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — offering wild alpine terrain with almost no crowds.

The Šar Mountain range in the north shares glacial landscapes and endemic wildlife with Kosovo. The Ohrid Ultra Trail has established this country firmly on the international trail running calendar, and with five races in 2026, the scene is growing fast.

☀ Best season: May – September
